Myth: The wind turbines will negatively impact the natural beauty and tourism industry in Greenbrier County.
Fact: Wind power projects traditionally create modest increases in tourism where they have been constructed because many people are curious about wind energy and find wind turbines to be aesthetically pleasing. In Tucker County, West Virginia, the Mountaineer Wind Energy Center has become a legitimate tourist attraction and the Tucker County Canaan Valley Convention & Visitors Bureau lists the project as an attraction and even includes it on the front cover its Visitors' Guide.
Beech Ridge will cooperate with local tourism enterprises to create a complementary experience to the wealth of other outdoor, recreational and tourism opportunities available in the region.
Beech Ridge will draw attention to Cold Knob and other local attractions such as the Midland Trail. Beech Ridge is also interested in working with Greenbrier County to sponsor a viewing station and informational kiosk for tourists interested in the Beech Ridge Wind Farm.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
